high gas prices

What is a few bucks spent on gas, when you have a lifetime of memories from one road trip?

Over the weekend I traveled down to wild and wonderful West Virginia. I packed about 2 weeks worth into 5 days. I had many refreshing conversations with longtime friends while marinating on Gods rustic mountains.

A spectrum of feelings: I was refreshed by the glory of God’s creation. I was overjoyed to see moco feo, Ray & Tiff over good pizza and talks about God. I was embarrassed by a fender bender with “The Don’s” getaway vehicle. I was encouraged to be among the worshippers of Hilltop. I was stuffed with good eatin’ at Bob & Elva Jean’s. I was blessed to spend quality time being enamored with the most wonderful woman, her name is “beautiful.”

High gas prices can’t stop me from these memories.

new christmas tree

I just got a new Christmas tree over the weekend. It is big compared to the little Charlie Brown tree that I had. The tree came fully decorated. It is unbelievable. It almost looks too good. The Davis’ were over and helped me put it up, which was a lot of fun. We had the Christmas tunes cranked, tea on the stove, and the shared memories of past Christmas’. Great day.

belly dancer for hire

In Memory of Grandma.

As a few of you know my late grandma, Joan Rothe, was a dancer. She could twirl a baton, do the polka, and wax any wedding reception with her grooves. And of course, who can forget grandma’s sweet skills in belly dancing or as she would tell us grandkids, “middle eastern dancing”. Ah yes, those were the days…watching grandma wiggle her hips on stage, balancing that sword on her head with a dozen other grandmas. It would make most young boys squimish, but for me, I was proud. I mean, who can brag on their grandma’s belly dancing skills? It made for a great show and tell in elementary school!?

In deed, I did inherit my grandmothers genes. I may not have the hips, but I do have the famed belly roll. The past few nights I have been honing my practice of belly dancing by watching instructional videos gifted to my by Amy and Charity who admittedly see potential in my future of male belly dancing. I know some of you may laugh, but if you are ever in need of a belly dancer I will soon be on the market. I could perform for your kids birthday parties, church potlucks or holiday business parties. I dont cost much, but I will promise you a good show.

In all seriousness, thanks grandma…
for loving on me like a mother,
for your patience with my kid-ish spells,
for the weekend rides to great grandma Stella’s,
for trying to cook and laughing about the mistakes,
for being a clean-aholic,
for your willingness to see the world and travel and share your adventures,
for demonstrating to me unbiased compassion,
for always having a fun and giving personality,
for never complaining even in the mist of deadly cancer,
and for instilling within me a desire to dance.

Remember K.E.I.T.H.

I remember working at a camp a few summers back. They had this slogan, “Remember KEITH”. I always thought it was silly until I heard the story behind it. Keith was your normal bouncing off the wall kid that you wanted to hang by his undies from the flag pole. Even though you never could have because of stupid CPS laws, you treated him different because of his attitude. All along Keith was looking for positive attention. I didnt know Keih and Keith didnt know me. Throughout the week I started to know Keith. His family was disfunctional, his faith was confused, he struggled in school, etc. He just wanted someone to listen…he wanted someone to believe in him…he wanted to really believe in God.

Keith might be like a lot of kids you know. He might even be you. “Remember KEITH” was a slogan to help remind us adults that their are a lot of Keiths out there so be…KindElasticIntegrityTimelyHospitable
